Edward Norton

Edward Norton (also credited as Edward Harrison Norton or Ed Norton) is an American actor and filmmaker born on August 18, 1969, in Boston, Massachusetts. After earning a history degree from Yale in 1991, he briefly worked in Japan before relocating to New York City to commit fully to acting.

Norton broke through with his film debut in Primal Fear (as Aaron/Roy Stampler), a performance that brought major awards attention, including a Golden Globe win and an Academy Award nomination. He followed with the searing American History X (as Derek), earning another Oscar nomination, and helped cement a generation-defining cult classic with Fight Club (as the Narrator).

Across the 2000s and beyond, Norton balanced prestige work with mainstream hits, starring in titles such as 25th Hour (as Monty Brogan), The Illusionist (as Eisenheim), Frida (as Nelson Rockefeller) and appearing uncredited in Kingdom of Heaven (as King Baldwin). He also formed the production banner Class 5 Films and expanded his behind-the-camera profile with projects including Motherless Brooklyn.

Beyond film, Norton is known for environmental and social-impact work, supporting affordable housing initiatives and conservation efforts, and serving as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity.
