Emerald Fennell

Emerald Fennell (also credited as Emerald Lilly Fennell) is an English screen artist born on October 1, 1985, in Hammersmith, London. Celebrated primarily for directing and writing, she has also built a notable on-screen résumé, earning major industry recognition including an Academy Award and multiple BAFTAs, alongside Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Fennell first drew attention through roles in prestige period projects such as Albert Nobbs, Anna Karenina, and The Danish Girl. Wider audiences came to know her via long-running television, including a standout stretch on Call the Midwife, and her portrayal of Camilla Parker-Bowles in Netflix’s The Crown, which brought awards-season attention.

Behind the camera, she became a defining voice of modern TV as showrunner for season two of Killing Eve, earning Emmy nominations for her work. Her feature directorial debut, Promising Young Woman, proved a breakthrough—winning her the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and additional nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.

Fennell has since expanded her range, writing the book for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cinderella and directing Saltburn. As an actor, she has appeared in projects including Barbie (Midge), Mr. Nice, Pan, Vita & Virginia, and The Darkest Universe.
