Javier Calvo

Javier Calvo (born January 21, 1991, in Madrid) is a Spanish screen artist known for directing, writing, and acting across theatre, film, and television. Also credited as Francisco Javier Calvo Guirao and widely nicknamed Javi Calvo, he first gained broad recognition on Spanish TV before expanding into ambitious, creator-led projects.

Calvo became a familiar face to audiences as Fernando “Fer” Redondo in the hit Antena 3 series Física o Química (2008–2011). That early success helped launch a career that soon moved behind the camera, where his voice proved equally distinctive.

Alongside filmmaker Javier Ambrossi—his creative partner and romantic partner—the duo popularly known as Los Javis co-created and directed the musical La llamada, later adapted into a feature film (2017). Together they have shaped modern Spanish TV with series including Paquita Salas, Veneno, its follow-up Vestidas de Azul, and La Mesías.

Calvo’s work has earned major industry recognition, including wins at the Feroz Awards and Fotogramas de Plata, plus multiple Goya Award nominations. His wider credits also include titles such as Rotos, Homenaje María Teresa Campos, and La viuda.
