Jeffrey Wright

Jeffrey Wright (born December 7, 1965, in Washington, D.C.) is an American screen and stage actor celebrated for intelligent, quietly commanding performances across film, television, and theater. He first became a major name through his award-winning turn as Belize in Angels in America, earning top honors on Broadway and again in the acclaimed HBO adaptation.

On the big screen, Wright has built a varied résumé that moves easily between prestige drama and mainstream franchises. He portrayed artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in Basquiat, appeared in ensemble favorites like Syriana and Broken Flowers, and brought sharp authority to roles such as Colin Powell in W. and Senator Thompson in The Ides of March. He also made his mark in Shaft and even tackled Shakespeare with Hamlet.

Wright is widely recognized as Felix Leiter in the James Bond series, including Quantum of Solace. On television, he earned acclaim for complex characters in HBO projects, notably as Bernard Lowe in Westworld and as Valentin Narcisse in Boardwalk Empire.

Expanding into voice work and genre storytelling, he has appeared in major franchises and lent his voice to Marvel’s animated universe as the Watcher in What If...?, underscoring a career defined by range, craft, and lasting cultural impact.
