Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan (also credited as Karen Sheila Gillan) is a Scottish screen artist born on November 28, 1987, in Inverness, Scotland. She first broke through in British television and film, quickly earning attention for her sharp comic timing and grounded dramatic presence.

Gillan became widely known worldwide as Amy Pond, a key companion to the Eleventh Doctor on Doctor Who (2010–2013). Around that rise, she appeared in projects such as the thriller Outcast and expanded her craft on the British stage, including a notable run in John Osborne’s Inadmissible Evidence.

Her move into Hollywood brought a run of high-profile roles, from the horror hit Oculus to the lead of the ABC comedy Selfie. She later reached blockbuster status as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji films, balancing action spectacle with character-driven humor.

Gillan has also stepped behind the camera, writing, directing, and starring in The Party’s Just Beginning. Recent credits include Gunpowder Milkshake, Dual, and continued Doctor Who-related appearances, underscoring a career that bridges British roots and global franchises.
