Kenneth Branagh

Kenneth Branagh (born December 10, 1960, in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a British screen artist celebrated for combining classical theatre craft with mainstream filmmaking. Raised largely in Reading, he trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later served as RADA’s president. Over a career spanning stage, film, and television, he has earned top honors including an Academy Award, multiple BAFTAs, Emmys, a Golden Globe, and an Olivier, alongside a knighthood and civic recognition in his hometown.

Branagh became a defining modern interpreter of Shakespeare on screen, directing and often starring in ambitious adaptations such as Henry V and Hamlet (as Prince Hamlet). His work behind the camera extends well beyond the Bard, from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (as Victor Frankenstein) to large-scale studio projects like Thor and Cinderella. His semi-autobiographical Belfast brought major awards attention and an Oscar win for screenplay.

As an actor, Branagh is widely recognized as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Miguel’s voice in The Road to El Dorado, and Henning von Tresckow in Valkyrie. He also fronts the ongoing Hercule Poirot film series as both director and star, while continuing to take high-profile supporting roles in major contemporary cinema.

On television, he has delivered acclaimed performances in projects ranging from Conspiracy to Wallander, reinforcing his reputation as a versatile performer equally at home in prestige drama and blockbuster entertainment.
