Kevin Macdonald

Kevin Macdonald (also known as Кевин Макдональд) is a Scottish director born on October 28, 1967, in Glasgow, Scotland. Renowned for blending investigative rigor with cinematic storytelling, he has moved fluidly between acclaimed documentaries and high-stakes narrative features.

Macdonald first drew major international attention with One Day in September (1999), his documentary examining the 1972 Munich tragedy, which earned the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. He followed with the gripping mountaineering film Touching the Void (2003), cementing a reputation for tense, human-centered nonfiction.

His feature work includes the Oscar-winning drama The Last King of Scotland (2006) and the political thriller State of Play (2009), alongside projects such as Marley (2012), How I Live Now (2013), and the submarine thriller Black Sea (2014). He later returned to music and biography with Whitney (2018) and tackled contemporary justice themes in The Mauritanian (2021).

In addition to directing, Macdonald has appeared on screen as a narrator and interview participant, with notable credits including Touching the Void: Return to Siula Grande and Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché.
