Ruben Fleischer

Ruben Fleischer (also credited as Ruben Samuel Fleischer) is an American director and producer born on October 31, 1974, in Washington, D.C. He broke out with the horror-comedy hit Zombieland (2009), a debut that quickly established his knack for fast pacing, sharp tone shifts, and crowd-pleasing genre filmmaking.

Before features, Fleischer built his craft in the world of music videos and high-profile commercials, creating work for major brands and collaborating with recording artists across styles. That hands-on background in short-form storytelling helped shape his energetic visual rhythm and comedic timing once he moved into studio films.

After studying history at Wesleyan University, he took an unconventional route into entertainment—working in San Francisco as a freelance HTML programmer before pivoting toward production. Encouraged by a close friend, he landed early industry experience as a production assistant on Dawson's Creek, then steadily climbed into directing.

His filmography spans action, comedy, and franchise blockbusters, including 30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad, Marvel’s Venom (2018), and the sequel Zombieland: Double Tap (2019), followed by Uncharted. He is also noted for an appearance in A Way In as himself.
