Shakira
Shakira (born February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Atlántico, Colombia) is a Colombian screen artist known for her on-camera performances in concert films, music specials, and documentary appearances. Also credited as Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, she has become a globally recognized presence whose work often blends performance, storytelling, and cultural identity.
Raised in Barranquilla, Shakira began performing while still in school, developing a distinctive style shaped by Latin American rhythms, Arabic influences, and rock energy. Her early stage confidence and dance training—especially her signature belly-dance elements—helped define the visual language that later carried into televised events and filmed live shows.
After releasing her first studio albums Magia and Peligro in the early 1990s with limited commercial impact, she broke through across Latin America with Pies Descalzos (1996) and strengthened her stardom with Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998). That rise set the foundation for a career frequently captured on screen, from tour documentaries to high-profile broadcast performances.
Her notable screen credits include Shakira: Oral Fixation Tour, Shakira: MTV Unplugged, Shakira: Live from Paris, VH1: Divas Las Vegas, and Global Goal: Unite for Our Future | The Concert, along with archive-footage appearances in Behind the Shield: The Power and Politics of the NFL and Nueva York: A Musical History of Latin New York.
