Stefany Mathias
Stefany Mathias (born March 12, 1972, in North Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian screen artist known for acting across film and television. Raised in North Vancouver, she is the only daughter of Squamish Nation hereditary Chief Joe Mathias and educator Janice Antoine, who led the Coldwater School in Merritt, B.C.
Mathias’ creative spark was nurtured early: her mother introduced her to children’s theatre, while her father broadened her imagination with movies of every kind. Alongside acting, she was encouraged to explore singing, dance, and writing. Her first notable break came at age seven in a local cable production of Little Mermaid, where she landed the Sea Witch—an early role that helped set her path.
After graduating from the University of British Columbia’s theatre program, she continued working on stage before being noticed by creator Chris Haddock, who cast her in a recurring role on the acclaimed series Da Vinci’s Inquest. She later appeared in Da Vinci City Hall and The Collector, and built a résumé that includes Prey, Pathfinder, Monkey Beach, Longmire, and The Last Frontier.
Mathias also trained in film production and directing at Vancouver Film School and has split her time between Los Angeles and British Columbia. Following her father’s passing in 2000, she became one of 16 hereditary chiefs of the Squamish Nation.
