Tanya Lapointe
Tanya Lapointe is a Canadian screen artist and producer whose career bridges journalism and filmmaking. She first became widely known through her work as an arts and culture journalist with Ici Radio-Canada, where she covered the creative world with a sharp, accessible voice before moving behind the camera.
In the mid-2010s, Lapointe began a relationship with director Denis Villeneuve and soon shifted into film production. She stepped away from broadcasting in 2015 to join the set of Arrival as a production assistant, and in 2016 she formally left journalism to focus on screen work full-time.
Lapointe’s documentary debut arrived with 50/50 (2018), a Radio-Canada project exploring persistent gender imbalance in society. She followed with The Paper Man (Lafortune en papier) (2020), which premiered at the Whistler Film Festival and earned the festival’s Audience Award—cementing her as a distinctive documentary storyteller.
Beyond filmmaking, she has remained active in Canadian cultural conversation, including a 2021 appearance on Le Combat des livres, where she championed Melchior Mbonimpa’s novel Le totem des Baranda. Her on-screen credits also include guest appearances as herself on programs such as Tout le monde en parle and Deux hommes en or.
